When September Ends

4 years ago, I gave a student an F in a programming class I’m teaching.

Dept chair said maybe I could consider giving a D instead. I obliged.

Now I’m sitting in the student’s defense.
Super crap output. Adviser is presenting on behalf of the group. 2nd defense. No prototype.

This clown reached senior year.

In a matter of months, this clown will be part of your company.
In a matter of years, this clown will be the manager your teams are complaining about.
In a matter of decades, this clown will be the obnoxious incompetent who won’t leave.

A friend said finance is the language of the elite, just like how Latin used to be the language available only to the popes, bishops & deacons of the land.

Back then, peasants needed to go to the high priests for wisdom because they can’t read Latin.

And understanding the wisdom the elites knew allowed the peasants, who were perspicacious enough to listen, to think in ways other peasants don’t think. Hence, making them do things other peasants don’t do. Hence, increasing the chances they will build things and do things that both the elites and the other peasants would be willing to learn from, pay money for, or use on a day-to-day basis.

Paying for new information is always good. But a lot of people don’t do it.

“Uh, but we can find the same information for free elsewhere.”Brother, if it’s given for free it means it’s not good/helpful information any longer.

Million-dollar ideas don’t get revealed in free webinars; The next big thing isn’t on Youtube.

Wealth is pay-to-play.

There is a difference between wanting something and deciding you will have something.

Wanting something means you stay in the fantasy of desiring the thing while knowing fully well you can’t get it. You try to get what you want once and if it doesn’t work out, you quit.

Deciding something means, this is what I want to do and have. I am not delusional as to think I can have everything I want, but this whole life of mine will be directed at the pursuit of acquiring this thing. I may not be able to get it but all my waking days are oriented to its acquisition.

Isn’t this a more admirable way to live?

Isn’t it a life that 12,000 generations of ancestors will be proud of?
