The Midwit Razor

✨ The Midwit Razor ✨

Someone gave a name to an idea I have been wanting to define for such a long time (I’m so jealous).

The idea goes, the beginner (idiot) and the proficient (genius) understand a problem, solution, phenomenon, or plan of action in its most basic form (literally without any fluff) and the people in the middle (of the bell curve) throw in a lot of unnecessary things that overcomplicate the understanding of something or the process of what needs to be done. This is essentially because the people in the middle are average and hence will opt to play the game of creating bells and whistles to stand out from their average peers, even if these fancy beguilements do nothing to achieve anything or in fact hurt the chances of reaching the goal.

How to use the idea: When in doubt, ask “What simple idea would the idiot and genius agree upon?”, then do that.
